The Modcast was established in 2010 by Eddie Piller, Dean Rudland and Sarah Bolshi – initially as a regular podcast aimed to inform and spread the gospel of mod culture to those who were already adherents or to interested parties who may be interested in dipping their toes into this most influential of British sub-cultures. Music, Film, Design, Fashion and Art have all contributed to the broad church that is Mod Culture.

After a couple of years, The Modcast expanded into hosting Thames Pleasure Cruises, and then into Bank Holiday parties at the likes of Brighton and Southend-on-Sea. The podcasts went from strength to strength, featuring both legends and experts who have influenced or been influenced by the world of Mod Culture.

Sir Bradley Wiggins, Martin Freeman, Mick Talbot, P.P. Arnold, Richard Barnes, Steve Cradock, Rhoda Dakar, Phil Davies, Geno Washington, Marshall Chess and a whole host of others have graced the podcast and the list is growing by the month. Mod Culture and its attendant influences of Northern Soul, R and B, Jazz, Psychedelia and the Mod Revival have been explored and deconstructed on almost 50 occasions.

Eventually, the extraordinary success of the Modcast Thames Cruises (the most recent one sold out some 7 months in advance) forced the team to reconsider the regularity of the podcasts and at the start of 2017, it was decided to revert to a monthly show. A redesigned website was quickly followed by the announcement of a new quarterly London party at The Singer in the spring.
